The Canvas

20130112-115727.jpg

This is how every canvas starts out. Blank! No title, no color, no subject, no image. It is open to the universe, the endless venture of imagination. It is freedom and the unknown of creativity. It clings to every angle, facet, area & dimension of “Nothing, but everything.” and before the first stroke, it is declared beautiful. A blank canvas is the mirror image of “Faith”. The gift of sight has to go beyond what you see with your eyes. The mind envisions and the heart feels the canvas with conviction. It is the touch of the canvas that reminds you of what it means to fall in love all over again with art. The energy is exuberating and those who can not see it invisible have to be shown by the canvas’s master. He/She is the guide and orchestrator of the masterpiece. Only then can it be alive and the viewers alive with it.

My Tag & Signature, “LeXXah Drew It”

20121217-151052.jpg

Because I did it.
I Drew it.
Did you know that a canvas can be anything. A canvas can be the ground, the air, a stool, a computer screen, a sheet of paper, a piece of wood, a stellar music track, the mic, a wall, you get the point.

I draw on these canvases all the time.

My Mother & my Father taught me at a young age that anytime I do something, a task, an assignment, a project or whatever it may be, that when I’m finished, people should view my work as the best, high quality, distinguished, astronomical and prestigious, why? Because my name is on it. My signature is on that project and on the track. People will know the worth and value of my work and when they ask who did it? The word on the street will be…

LeXXah Drew It!

I take pride in anything and everything I do. I want people to know what I do and what I did. I want people to say, “Man, that song was all that, it gave me goosebumps or that song is HOT! I want to hear more of her, where can I go to check her out!”

I want people to say, “Man, that art piece was off the chain who did it?”

LeXXah Drew It!

“Man, that blog was beautiful and so was that poem, who wrote that?”

LeXXah Drew It!

You should think of my tag and signature not so much as a first and last name, but moreso as a phrase because really that’s what it is.

Even without the “It” at the end, “LeXXah Drew” is still a phrase. The cool thing about it is I use a whole lot of capital letters. What can I say, I love breaking the rules, breaking the norms and being different.

Attention to detail is huge for me. It’s something that separates the professionals from the amateurs. Even with something little as a phrase.

I am a Multi Artist at a very high level. And when people hear me, see me, hear my work, see my work, read my writings, my blogs, watch my videos etc. all will know LeXXah Drew It!

Yea, my phrase is past tense, but that just means I’m working on yet another stellar joint, record, drawing. I’m about that life, all studio flows. Didn’t you get the memo, there’s not just one studio flow, but many.

This is my tag and this is my signature. Like it or not,

I Hate the Title, “Artist”

Its one of those things where, I hate it so much I love it. Literally.

There’s a couple of ways on how you can look at it because the title “artist” has so many definitions. Its not just one thing, but many things.

I actually meant it in the sense of music, but you can look at it in different ways.

The frustrating thing to me about this title is that many people devalue it if its not on a respectable level. That’s the crazy thing about being an artist. Having that title doesn’t seem to hold much weight. Sometimes I feel like its looked at as a joke.

Henceforth, the saying, “the starving artist”. It can at times be on the same playing field as a homeless person.

That’s pretty low, but I think its safe to say that no one wants the slightest idea of, let alone the actual title of being, “homeless”.

These points can both be said about the visual artist and the musician/band artist. Without the buzz, the attention, the money backing you, the popularity etc., being an “Artist” can be the worst thing on the planet.

These are the elements, in which are needed for one with the title, “artist”, should have. Its a must. You are displaying an art, your creativity, your concept of beauty.

Artists thrive from the love of the people, the masses.

I love art and I have much respect for artists. Its not an easy thing to have that title. Talk about going through so much hate just to get to the love. Especially nowadays. Supporting that title is not as feasible as it has been in past years.

People are hesitant when it comes to supporting this profession. People can buy a $5 mocha from Starbucks, but can’t or refuse to spend a $1 on itunes to support an artist.

Artists these days have to pay to perform when they are providing a service which is entertainment. Artists should be getting paid for this service.

People don’t realize how much work goes into putting a stellar song together, from production to writing the lyrics to studio time. Then more work is put in to rehearse the performance. Then wardrobe and image is a huge factor. An artist must play their role, their character.

Then there’s the matter of transportation, promoting, getting your name out there. Major marketing is involved. All of these features are not cheap. There are other things as well, but I think these are the main characteristics.

It makes you hate it just thinking about it. This title is different from other titles or at least what comes with it. With this title, you don’t have to have a degree. With other titles that are treated more prestigious, a degree is required in most cases and a combination of experience. Talent alone is disguised by knowledge, unlike “Artist”, talent is open with creativity and we all know that art is objective.

A hard truth. You have to break out of it. There is much love in the title, but the same love that comes with it, is the same love that makes you hate it.
