Songwriting is more than just writing lyrics!

20130207-104724.jpg

Its actually writing a SONG! A song that has a hot melodic structure, strong content, movement, consistency in verse quality, smooth transitions, marketability, a strong catchy hook, a unique concept that reaches the market in which you are trying to reach, vocal production, vocal arrangements, conviction and feeling, and last but not least, growth.

After you finish with the song, it should have the ability to stand the test of time.

This is what songwriting is. Songwriting is what makes the song complete. As a creator in lyrics, you have to take in account all these areas that I have listed above. One feature of it is just as important as the next feature. They are all needed in order to come to the product finale of a stellar hit marketable song that can be placed in a variety of multi-media.

Songwriting is not easy for those who think it is. When you take into account the characteristics, its very tedious. It is imperative to be a student and stay on top of hot topics, melodic structures, dynamics and animation within a song. Music is constantly changing, you must know how to change with it.

Writing songs is in my DNA. I understand what it takes to put together a great song, a hit song. I have a formula, but my formula may not be the same as yours. It is something that one must find as you focus in on your craft.

Its so important for people to understand what songwriting really is. I’m writing this to open up the minds of writers that its way bigger than what you may see on the surface. You are putting together a film, a scene and in that film and scene, you have to see the whole picture not just one aspect of it.

Paint the masterpiece of your song. Fill in the darker darks and the lighter lights. Let the audience know where the light source is coming from and where the shadows will hit. Choose your medium well, your target market. accomplish the goals of every stroke to gear towards that market while maintaining the identity and personality of the subject matter. The concept and you as its host, must be one. I know you can hear it. break down and build to inherit its proximity (the art term). It is a beautiful thing!

You Learn a Whole lot About People when the Subject of “MONEY” Comes Up!

All you can do is laugh.

And if not that, all you can do is just show no emotion about it. Don’t entertain the ignorance.

After awhile, when you bring up money when it comes to selling your product or art or whatever you do, you just become immune to it. There is a mutual understanding without going any further.

For the most part, you save some time because you don’t have to entertain a person for too long. You are able to get to the meat of the discussion. Literally!

Really, its a deal breaker to find out whose really full of sh………….!!!!! Imma keep it Rated PG though, for the kids. LeXX Loves the Kids!

Yes, its annoying. Especially when you know and they know that you’re product is good, great quality, distinguished, worth every penny. But then you bring up that word, “money” and people get shady so quick. I think its the sound of it. It could be that it is a trigger word to run people off.

Cuz you know, everybody is a fan or a supporter or a customer until you mention that topic, “money” and then everybody goes dumb founded. You start to hear crickets, the room goes empty or no one understands what you’re saying. Its like you’re speaking a totally new different language.

They just flip the script with you. Like, “were we just having a conversation.” The dialogue literally goes mute and they just forget what the whole conversation was about. Or there is no response from a direct message, a tweet, an Instagram comment and/or Facebook comment.

I guess they were diagnosed with the mute syndrome, instantaneously. The, “I’m allergic to money talk.” And its only on the end where you’re asking for someone to support you. The giving is the problem. I think we can all agree on that everybody is down to take money, who wouldn’t?

But if you really want to learn a whole lot about a person, people, supporters, fans, bring up the subject, “Money” and you will find out very quickly who believes in you, who supports you, who really likes you and is willing to invest in you. Its almost like finding out who your real friends are when you get into trouble, when things ain’t looking too good for the home team.

True colors come out the wood works. And again, its nothing to be mad about. And I’ll be honest, it does hurt. It can be a rude awakening if you’re a baby to it all, but suck it up and keep going. Unfortunately, that’s just the way life is.

There is a saying that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me, but it makes sense, “Give to those that have.” which means giving not to those who don’t have.

I say this to bring up this point…….

Now these things may not apply if you have an already BIG name or you’re well known or you are coming up fast in a hot market. But, other than that its rough. Just look at how hard it is to get people, fans, & supporters to purchase your $0.99 Single on iTunes! Its crazy. You have to have some serious backing and/or serious buzz.

There’s nothing to hide, lets just be real about this. You know. Either you’ve been through it or someone you know has been through it. But no emotion is needed. Why show emotion if it just is!

#StudioFlow

20121129-110240.jpg

It’s a flow that never stops.

It has no set time of start or end. There is no such thing as a 9 to 5 on this concept, this vibe, this zone.

Music people know it, from producers, songwriters, artists to major labels, independent labels, A&Rs, rappers and engineers, why??? Because it’s what we do. It’s what we eat, sleep and drink 25-8, (shout out to MJB for putting us on game with that Single!)

We make our own hours, hours that aren’t known to the average person. It’s about that grind, the desire to dish out, to produce a GREAT product every time those hands are placed on the mixing board, on that beat making program, exporting or importing vocals in waves, recording on the mic, the list goes on.

#StudioFlow is the business. It’s like having that juice, that constant vibe everyday all the time and you can’t get rid of it.

It’s a craving. It’s definitely a turn on for me because it is what I love to do. When all seems to fail, you just want to show it on tha mic, put it on that bangin stellar track and make beautiful hit songs for all the world to hear.

It’s one of the hottest places on the planet. I can trap myself in a studio for hours, for days and create out the wazoo and not get tired. I’m telling you it’s a beautiful thing.

As a songwriter it’s a must that I always be in and have that flow. Writing for other artists both male and female, it is a must. I bring it everytime, my A+ game. You always have to prove yourself.

#StudioFlow circulates around the whole music industry. There’s no such thing as being in the music industry and Not having this flow.

It’s a sacrifice day in and day out. Some newbies may not know about it just yet or to its fullest because they are just gettin their feet wet.

I felt it was time to clarify what #StudioFlow really is. It’s the real thing, the real deal and it does exist for a reason. the best of the best of the best use this terminology and its good for one to know it.

Imma even get more creative with it and call it, #StudioJuice. That’s gonna be the next hottest movie on BET. Just watch.

If you got that #StudioFlow, salute, like and talk it up on my blog. It is a lifestyle.

Again, I’m LeXXah Drew, a songwriter, vocal producer and vocal arranger with the Alexis Wilson Song Factory LLC. If you are interested in networking with my team and I, CONTACT us at 678.744.5396. Professional Phone Photographer “ALL DAY!!!”

Professional Phone Photography at its best! LeXXah Drew It!

Yes, I consider myself to be a professional when it comes to taking pics of myself with my phone. There is a science to it and I’m an artist. Alot of people downplay the art and clown people about it, well, let me say it this way, people clown people who don’t know how to do it right!

Ok, that sounds a whole lot better.

I got the hair in motion going on. Professional Phone Photgrapher at its best!

I could literally do it all day and for me its making up for lost time because I feel like I didn’t take a whole lot of pictures of myself when I was little. When I manage to have my kids, it will be nice to show them pics of they Momma when she was young and lookin’ fiyah!!!!!!!!!! Lol.

I Make this thing look good!

Don’t worry, I don’t let it go to my head, but I want my kids to see that I had it going on and hopefully when they get older they’ll still see that I have it  going on.

Poster Design after a Professional Phone Photoshoot!

Aside from that, its fun just to capture those moments. Moments that you will never see again. You can call it sentimental or memorable or whatever, but I have a whole lot of them in my archives.

I go Rogue on this one!

Between taking pics and designing them afterwards, being the graphic designer that I am, its another way to explore my creativity. I use them to design posters, banners, flyers, business cards and anything promotional.

Its more than just a hobby. I’m cold at my profession! Yes, you heard me right, “PROFESSION!”

An Expressive Artistic Passion. Its more than just a hobby!

I’m being quite serious about that. Most people would probably laugh, but I’ve actually spent years to perfect my craft. And think of it this way, you have professional drug dealers, you have professional eaters, you have professional video gamers whether its PS3, XBox or Wii, well………….. I am a professional phone photographer.

I will never see this moment again, it is gone forever

I hope that aided you in understanding where I’m coming from. And if you still have problems swallowing the concept, think of it this way, think of all the sports created that just don’t make a whole lot of sense. You know the sports I’m talking about. You find yourself asking, how in the world did this become a sport? How is it even considered a sport?

Water polo!!!?? Derived from dodgeball, who would of thunk it.

The sporty look is and shall always be my look!

But anyway, the goal is not to rant or convince you. The goal is to show off my stellar skills. I hope you enjoy. This profession can be adopted by anyone if they put their mind into it.

One of many banners I created from my professional phone photography. Its called artistic expression.

Nothing Is For Certain in the Music Venture!

Nope, nothing is for certain at all.

Its like literally winning the lottery. What is the probability of that happening?

This is not to discourage anyone, but just bringing to light the reality of music ventures. Let’s just talk plain and simple…………………………………….

Somebody, has to know you! Like forreal know you. Having some buzz on the streets would assist a whole lot, but again, someone that is in a real position to help you has to know you.

And I’m not talking about sexual favors for both males and females. In my personal opinion, I feel like that department is played out. Especially for the ladies who are career minded and the only way to get something is give it up! And 9 times out of 10, you still won’t get anywhere. Its not guaranteed.
The Music world is very dark, very lustful and very shady, all in the same breath.

Its like tossing up a coin 10 times and out of those 10 times, how many of those times will the coin land on heads!?

I wish I had the formula, but really I think the best formula, is no formula. You have to be at the right place at the right time saying all the right things, showing that you are ready and prepared for the new challenges and backing it up with how much richer you can make someone else.

Who wouldn’t want there pockets on swole?

I hope I didn’t run you off! I hope I’m not scaring you. That is not my goal. I like to be honest and upfront with people because I feel like a lot of people, moreso than not, beat around the bushes, are not straight forward. Just ask yourself. Listen to your own self-experiences in the music game. Honestly, what have you been through trying to reach your goal? Its rhetorical!

I’ve heard it many of times, “I could do this, I can get this for you.” and then nothing happens.

I am a songwriter and I love writing songs for both males and females. Its a huge passion. I’m not pushing myself as an artist, but the artist thing is not the easiest thing. It is a literal GRIND. You have to spend your way to the top and most of the times nowadays when you hear someone say that they are an artist, they are looked at as consumers.

Think about it. Its hard to swallow at times but its true. But you can judge for yourself. I’m just bringing to light and raising awareness to those who may not know and to those they may know but need to be reminded.

You can’t get too high and you can’t get too low. You have to stay at an even kill and know what you are going into on a day to day basis.

Nothing is for certain. It is only certain when the money is on the table and you are there physically witnessing it. When that happens and it is in your account, it is certain. ACTION people! An ACTION has to take place in your favor! That is certainty, is it not!!??
