You’ve felt the rejection.

Crushed, tears, heart breaking, smacked in the face……..

It hurts……….

Somethin’s gotta give right?

Yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But it won’t give unless you CONTINUE 2 Be LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They gone keep ignoring you.

They gone keep shunning away from you.

They gone keep downplaying what you do.

It can be for all kinds of reasons……..

It can be for this, that and the other.

Man, who cares,

CONTINUE 2 Be LOUD!

Make yo voice heard!

Make it soar.

Make it rain like thunder

Bring the heat in your actions………

Be a student of the game you wish to play in.

Don’t do it for me……….for you, do it for us.

Be the sum of the part that makes a community whole.

STOP!

Which word did you hear LOUDER!!!!!!!!!?????????????

Stay motivated.

Don’t be scared!

Be tall amongst the trees.

Be firm and spread your arms like the branches.

Reinvent yourself in every quarter of the seasons.

Just because you make a Beat, doesn’t mean you’re a Producer!

I’m addressing an issue.

Some people may find this truth to be disturbing, because for so long, beat makers are seriously convinced that because they make a beat, they are producers.

For those who don’t know, This is not true!

If you make a beat, meaning, you loop the same patterns for about 3 to 4 minutes in both verses and hooks, you are a beat maker and that’s it. Nothing more, nothing less.

I don’t say this to be mean or to downplay what a beat maker does, but I recommend that you research the title, “PRODUCER” for yourself and you can ask any big time successful producer in the industry. And I’m talking about thorough research, not just Wikipedia or the dictionary.

This is a serious misunderstanding among the masses and those who are trying to make it with their music.

A producer makes and puts together a SONG, meaning, getting the right engineer with the right songwriter or songwriters with the right programmer with the right artist or artists to create a stellar hit and/or a marketable song.

It doesn’t just stop there. We haven’t even included the live instrumentation. The song is still missing some key pieces, so the producer calls in a cold bass player to put down the bass, he calls in the right guitar player to lay down the guitar riffs. He calls up a drummer to give the drums in the song the movement it was missing. The right background vocalists need to mesh better behind the artist or rapper on the track. So, the producer gets the right background vocalists.

This is a Producer! Yes, this is a Producer! Did you know that a Producer doesn’t even have to know how to make a beat or a music track. He or she does not have to know how. What makes you a producer is your ability to create a song, putting the right pieces together to make that stellar song and that is a Producer.

Yea, that’s extensive isn’t it, when you compare a Producer to a Beat maker or even a programmer. There’s a huge difference. And I’m not just making this stuff up. Its the real deal.

I know somebody may be mad right now, but their are a lot of beat makers reading this and getting a rude awakening. But, it needs to be said and needs to be clarified. I have been around many beat makers who don’t really know what it means to be a producer. Well, I wanted to learn about it and share this knowledge with those who may not know. And this is good for artists and rappers to know as well. Educating yourself when it comes to music is very important. Knowing the real terminology and the business is quite significant to your success.

Earlier this year, I went to the IMC, the International Music Conference, brushing shoulders with Big time cats and listening to what they were saying on the panels with upcoming producers/beatmakers and programmers. Chuck Harmony, Kendrick Dean and Drumma Boy broke it down best. Guys who have proven themselves at a high level in the music industry.

I wish so many cats claiming the producer title could of been at the IMC to hear this. It was valuable information for all to hear. So, if you didn’t know, now you know. No more playing like you don’t. It had to be said, it had to be done.

They Watch from a Distance………………

20121203-224327.jpg

LOL.

Yea, its complicated and frustrating and interesting.

I think it has more to do with your level, your bread and popularity according to who knows you. It has absolutely nothing to do with talent.

So, they wait and watch from a distance. They are never too close where if you don’t make it, they can say that they had nothing to do with you, but they are not too far where if you do make it, they were with you all along.

I know that game, do you?

At some point in time or another, one may go through this. It literally is a watching game. A spectator game.

It is, what can you do for me and if the answer is nothing or it doesn’t have FREE up in there somewhere, its just a keep on walking and don’t say nothing. It looks appealing to look though.

I think it is more about just waiting to see what happens, how your life plays out. People want to see what they can get out of you.

So, here you are, busting your butt to accomplish something larger than life and the distance watchers watching from afar. If the signs are promising and become true, they want in on what you’re doing. They want a piece of the pie.

They are not or were not apart of your struggle, but yet they want to be apart of your success. They say things like, “Remember ME when you get there.” “Don’t forget about ME when you get to the top.” “Don’t forget about the little people.”

They put their 2 cents in to try and secure a place with you right before you make it. And still, they watch from a distance. They don’t want to support or help the cause and/or dream, but they want to enjoy the fruits of someone else’s hard working labor.

And the crazy thing is, is that those who do this, would be in denial. No one wants to believe that this type of person being described would be them. They would not claim this description, even though they may shake their head in agreement while reading this.

It literally is funny how that works. I have seen it. Watchers won’t reveal themselves to you. They are too smooth for that. They ease drop and every 2 or 3 months they either call you or stop by to chat with you on FB or Twitter to see if you made it yet. But they don’t just flat out ask you that question. Its indirect.

If it has happened to you, you understand where I’m coming from and understand what I’m talking about. I’ve peeped that sorry game, but one thing I can definitely say about those who watch from a distance, is you learn about what is to come, you learn about who people really are, you learn about who is really on your side and who wants to see you succeed, you learn about how they see you and some see you as a foot stool.

Its nothing to be mad about. You can’t do anything about that, but you can be more aware of whats going on and pay attention to what people are saying and implying through casual conversation. You can be more observant to your surroundings and be street smart.

Watching from a distance is a safe zone for some people. They don’t want to be embarrassed or ashamed that they were seen with you or at one point in time, they were supporting you. They are concerned about whose watching them. They are afraid to be affiliated with an idea if it goes south.

I speak this from experience. I’m not just making this stuff up. I don’t write or speak just to hear myself talk. If I did, I wouldn’t like myself, but since I do like myself, I speak and write with purpose and reason. Somebody out there may not be aware of those who just watch.

There are watchers at all kinds of different levels, but you always have the traditional watchers, in which I described above. Those watchers never change. Stay on the look out, especially when you are a person who dreams BIG and that dream starts out as a concept that you believe in!

I Hate the Title, “Artist”

Its one of those things where, I hate it so much I love it. Literally.

There’s a couple of ways on how you can look at it because the title “artist” has so many definitions. Its not just one thing, but many things.

I actually meant it in the sense of music, but you can look at it in different ways.

The frustrating thing to me about this title is that many people devalue it if its not on a respectable level. That’s the crazy thing about being an artist. Having that title doesn’t seem to hold much weight. Sometimes I feel like its looked at as a joke.

Henceforth, the saying, “the starving artist”. It can at times be on the same playing field as a homeless person.

That’s pretty low, but I think its safe to say that no one wants the slightest idea of, let alone the actual title of being, “homeless”.

These points can both be said about the visual artist and the musician/band artist. Without the buzz, the attention, the money backing you, the popularity etc., being an “Artist” can be the worst thing on the planet.

These are the elements, in which are needed for one with the title, “artist”, should have. Its a must. You are displaying an art, your creativity, your concept of beauty.

Artists thrive from the love of the people, the masses.

I love art and I have much respect for artists. Its not an easy thing to have that title. Talk about going through so much hate just to get to the love. Especially nowadays. Supporting that title is not as feasible as it has been in past years.

People are hesitant when it comes to supporting this profession. People can buy a $5 mocha from Starbucks, but can’t or refuse to spend a $1 on itunes to support an artist.

Artists these days have to pay to perform when they are providing a service which is entertainment. Artists should be getting paid for this service.

People don’t realize how much work goes into putting a stellar song together, from production to writing the lyrics to studio time. Then more work is put in to rehearse the performance. Then wardrobe and image is a huge factor. An artist must play their role, their character.

Then there’s the matter of transportation, promoting, getting your name out there. Major marketing is involved. All of these features are not cheap. There are other things as well, but I think these are the main characteristics.

It makes you hate it just thinking about it. This title is different from other titles or at least what comes with it. With this title, you don’t have to have a degree. With other titles that are treated more prestigious, a degree is required in most cases and a combination of experience. Talent alone is disguised by knowledge, unlike “Artist”, talent is open with creativity and we all know that art is objective.

A hard truth. You have to break out of it. There is much love in the title, but the same love that comes with it, is the same love that makes you hate it.
