Songwriting is more than just writing lyrics!

Its actually writing a SONG! A song that has a hot melodic structure, strong content, movement, consistency in verse quality, smooth transitions, marketability, a strong catchy hook, a unique concept that reaches the market in which you are trying to reach, vocal production, vocal arrangements, conviction and feeling, and last but not least, growth.

After you finish with the song, it should have the ability to stand the test of time.

This is what songwriting is. Songwriting is what makes the song complete. As a creator in lyrics, you have to take in account all these areas that I have listed above. One feature of it is just as important as the next feature. They are all needed in order to come to the product finale of a stellar hit marketable song that can be placed in a variety of multi-media.

Songwriting is not easy for those who think it is. When you take into account the characteristics, its very tedious. It is imperative to be a student and stay on top of hot topics, melodic structures, dynamics and animation within a song. Music is constantly changing, you must know how to change with it.

Writing songs is in my DNA. I understand what it takes to put together a great song, a hit song. I have a formula, but my formula may not be the same as yours. It is something that one must find as you focus in on your craft.

Its so important for people to understand what songwriting really is. I’m writing this to open up the minds of writers that its way bigger than what you may see on the surface. You are putting together a film, a scene and in that film and scene, you have to see the whole picture not just one aspect of it.

Paint the masterpiece of your song. Fill in the darker darks and the lighter lights. Let the audience know where the light source is coming from and where the shadows will hit. Choose your medium well, your target market. accomplish the goals of every stroke to gear towards that market while maintaining the identity and personality of the subject matter. The concept and you as its host, must be one. I know you can hear it. break down and build to inherit its proximity (the art term). It is a beautiful thing!

I Don’t Believe In X-MAS, I Believe In Christmas!

YES!!!!!!!! There is a difference! A huge difference.

I would be honored to define it for you.

X-MAS is a period of time created by retailers to boost sales around the Christmas Holidays. It is also a word to involve non-believers  who don’t believe in Christmas during this spiritual holiday, to get their consumerism as well. It’s all about money

CHRISTMAS is a birthday celebration and Holiday for believers in Jesus Christ.

Businesses have contributed in turning the meaning of Christmas all about money, selling products, moving units to get that top dollar and they have done a great job fooling so many people, even believers in this infiltrated  and substitution term, “X-Mas.”

The word Christmas derived from somewhere, it just wasn’t made up. There is a story behind it. Christmas is way bigger than some big sale at Macy’s, Toys R’Us and Walmart. This is about the birth of Jesus Christ. The greatest gift ever given to mankind. Henceforth, “giving”, not of money and sells and discounts, but salvation and life. It is also about being thankful for love, family, health, strength and all of the little things that people often take for granted.

Wikipedia defines X-Mas as a common abbreviation of Christmas. Then it goes into breaking down the origins and languages from which it came from. Then it goes on to say, verbatim:

“There is a common misconception that the word Xmas stems from a secular attempt to remove the religious tradition from Christmas[3] by taking the “Christ” out of “Christmas”.”

I find this to be quite funny. Now why would they feel the need to put that down. People this is not a misconception. We as believers, should have the decency to honor God and His son, Jesus Christ to say, write and type the true name of this grand Holiday and Birthday Celebration.

Wikipedia’s statement is another way to cover up and justify themselves in telling people this garbage. They quoted this because they know that “X-Mas” is an attempt to remove the spiritual purpose and meaning from Christmas, it had to be addressed. And I’m willing to bet that an atheist or non-believer wrote that statement.

“X-Mas” should definitely be included in High School and College marketing and business books, because that is all it is, a marketing business and promotional stunt and tool.

I put it on the level of X-Men. As much as I like the comics and the animation series, this is what the meaning of Christmas has been diminished to. As far as honor. Just like X-Men is fiction and it doesn’t exist, so is X-Mas. That crap was clean made up. The same goes for Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny. Come on believers, we are better than that.

Everything doesn’t have to be entertainment. There is a time to play and a time not to. Kids will be happier if you just tell them the truth. Like I said, Christmas is way bigger and better and stronger than this so-called term, “X-Mas”

I hear people on Facebook ask often, “Why did they take Prayer out of school?” You know what, prayer wasn’t taken out of school. Some person who had the power, money, position and big time degree said to take it out and everyone followed pursuit. Just because someone says it, it doesn’t mean you have to put action behind it. When I was in school I still prayed. I prayed in my head, much like how the teacher asks you to read in your head not out loud. WE CAN STILL PRAY IN SCHOOL!!!!!

Now it has transcended onto Christmas. Shall I demonstrate, “Why did they take Christ out of Christmas?” You know what, Christ wasn’t taken out of Christmas. Some non-believer who had the power, money, position and big time degree said to take it out and call it “X-Mas” to include non-believers and everyone including believers followed pursuit. They trained everybody and everyone caught on to the concept. It was accepted!

I don’t believe in X-Mas, I believe in Christmas.

People have the right to know the truth. Don’t be fooled by a political term, a marketing term, a retailers term, a business term. That is all “X-Mas” is. Christmas should be honored better than that. Call me by my real name not a fake name. Call it what it is, anything else is disrespectful.

So the word, “Christmas” is long. I just kind of feel since people have the time to write out curse words, derogatory names and any other word we use out of the dictionary, why can’t we do that for “Christmas”, especially since that word, the Holiday does have so much more meaning than most words people use on a regular! Something to think about.

I love Christmas and I understand the meaning of it and the History of it. I’m very passionate about this Holiday and I can see how the spirit of Christmas has just changed over the years and I know that there are many of you who see it or have seen it too. Seeds can be planted in many ways even within a name and how people view these Holidays. Remember what Christmas is about. It is not in the Mall, stores and shops. It is in our hearts, spirit and our lives.

I don’t believe in X-Mas. I don’t believe in it not one bit. I believe in Christmas! I hope each of you have a beautiful, Blessed & safe Christmas! Happy Holidays to you, you and you! #SMILE!
